Companion of the Ordre des CA du Québec
The title of Companion of the Ordre des comptables agréés du Québec, designated by the initials C.OCAQ, is awarded to formally recognize non-members who have made an outstanding contribution to the CA profession.
Once a year, the Ordre’s President and CEO submits nominations directly to the Board of Directors at the February meeting during which it awards the FCA title.
Members of the Board hold a secret vote on each proposed nomination. Before the vote is taken, the Chair of the Ordre asks Board of Directors members whether they are aware of any facts not included in the summary of relevant information forwarded by the Executive Office that could have a significant impact on the decision to award the title of Companion of the Ordre to each candidate. At least two-thirds of votes cast by Board members during the secret vote must be in favor of a candidate for the C.OCAQ title to be awarded.

Christiane Brizard, avocate, C.OCAQ

Reçue au Barreau du Québec en 1981, Me Christiane Brizard a œuvré pendant 12 ans à titre de stagiaire, d’employée et d’associée au sein du cabinet d’avocats Desjardins Ducharme Stein Monast. Dès son embauche, elle a représenté l’Ordre dans le cadre de divers dossiers dont ceux de pratique illégale. En 1993, elle fonde le cabinet Brizard Laflamme Robinson et prend en charge l’ensemble des dossiers que l’Ordre lui confie. Tout en continuant à traiter des dossiers de pratique illégale, elle représente l’Ordre dans le cadre du recours intenté par l’Ordre des CGA pour faire déclarer inconstitutionnels les articles de la Loi sur les comptables agréés touchant l’exclusivité de l’exercice de la comptabilité publique.
En 1998, elle se joint à l’Ordre et met en place la direction Affaires juridiques. À titre de directrice, elle a piloté divers dossiers, parfois très complexes, en faisant montre d’un dévouement indéfectible et d’un professionnalisme exemplaire. Au fil des ans, Me Brizard a représenté brillamment l’Ordre au sein de plusieurs comités du Conseil interprofessionnel du Québec (CIQ), dont le comité sur la législation. Elle a également été membre du Groupe de travail sur l’allègement réglementaire et du Groupe de travail sur l’exercice en société, créés par le ministère de la Justice dans le cadre du chantier sur la mise à jour du système professionnel québécois. L’expertise, le savoir-faire et le savoir-être de Me Brizard en font une des juristes les plus respectées de tous les partenaires du système professionnel québécois.
Me Brizard s’implique au sein du Barreau du Québec, notamment à titre de membre du Comité de discipline. Elle agit aussi à titre de professeure et de membre du Comité des examens professionnels de l’École du Barreau.

Jean-François Joly, C.Tr. C.OCAQ

A well-known figure in the translation world, Jean-François Joly began his career as a translator in 1970 with the Ordre des comptables agréés du Québec. In 1977, he was promoted to the position of Director of Translation and Terminology. This department became the Language Services Department of the CICA in 1992. A certified translator since 1971, Mr. Joly has always been an ardent defender of clarity of expression and of terminology intended to facilitate communication throughout the French-speaking world. Evidence of his dedication to language can be found in the Dictionnaire de la comptabilité et de la gestion financière (he was one of the main collaborators on the Dictionnaire), and in his many consultations with French, Belgian and Swiss stakeholders to establish conformed terminology for the translation of International Standards on Auditing. A distinguished member of the Ordre’s French Terminology Committee, Jean-François Joly is involved in preparing terminology and neology bulletins. He also supervised the production of the Vocabulaire essentiel de l’évaluation d’entreprise and the Vocabulaire essentiel des dérivés et autres instruments financiers.
Mr. Joly has shared his time and expertise with many organizations. He is a past president of the Société des traducteurs du Québec, the Canadian Translators and Interpreters Council and the International Federation of Translators. An active member of Quebec’s professional community, Mr. Joly has been appointed by the Office des professions to serve as public representative on the Bureaus of several professional orders in Quebec.
