The title of Fellow of the Ordre (FCA)

In 1983, the Bureau of the Ordre passed a resolution creating the title of Fellow of the Ordre des comptables agréés du Québec, designated by the initials FCA, for the purpose of formally recognizing those members who have rendered outstanding services to the profession, or whose achievements in their careers or in the community have earned them distinction and brought honor to the profession.

Awarding of the title follows a rigorous process based on criteria that are regularly reviewed by the Bureau of the Ordre. The purpose of these criteria is twofold: to ensure the openness of the eligibility process and to assist the members of the Selection Committee.

Nomination files are only accepted during the annual nomination period. Please complete the nomination file by following the different instructions for each section and filling the information directly in the document. Only complete files will be submitted to the Selection Committee.

This year's nomination period for the FCA title runs from October 1^st to November 12, 2010.

The six most common mistakes when presenting a nomination for the FCA title

Assuring that the FCA title is a “career award”
Each year, the Selection Committee receives nominations for retired or soon-to-be retired members. While having worked as a CA throughout one’s career is worthy of mention, it does not mean that these members will automatically be awarded the FCA title.
The nomination form alone does not constitute a file
Each year, the Selection Committee receives at least one nomination form that constitutes the “essence” of the file itself. It is important to understand that it is not the responsibility of the Committee members or Ordre staff to prepare a candidate’s file.
Disregarding the evaluation criteria
You may be surprised to learn that some of the files presented to the Selection Committee do not meet all of the evaluation criteria. This does not do justice to the proposed candidate since the file is incomplete.
Failing to highlight the candidate’s performance
It is very important to clearly highlight how the candidate’s performance sets him or her apart.
Assuming that the members of the Selection Committee are aware of all professional, community and charitable organizations in Quebec and elsewhere
CAs are heavily involved in volunteer work for numerous organizations. While it is important to highlight the candidate’s volunteer activities, it is equally important to assist the Selection Committee by providing information on the organization itself.
Quantity over quality
The Selection Committee expects the nomination file to highlight the fact that the candidate’s outstanding contribution is common knowledge, i.e. that the acknowledged achievements make the member a recognized leader. It is therefore better to focus on quality than on a long list of “normal” achievements. For example, being a member of several organizations is not as significant as chairing the board or ensuring an organization’s viability.
